Coordinator of Volunteers (CoV) 101
Though every SMP program is unique in its own way, there are certain
fundamentals that all Coordinators of Volunteers (CoVs) need to follow
as part of the national SMP network.
Core Resources Needed by Every CoV
- VRPM Policies: The Administration for Community
Living (ACL)/Administration on Aging (AoA) has developed Volunteer Risk
and Program Management (VRPM) Policies, which come due in three stages from
June 2013 through December 2014.
- VRPM Implementation: Many VRPM implementation resources and tools have
been developed to help SMPs implement ACL/AoA's VRPM policies
(described above).
- Training: The SMP Resource Center provides training and related resources on many topics of
interest to CoVs.
- Calendar of Events: Add dates and times for upcoming
webinars to your calendar. Access information is provided by
email.
- Volunteer Training: Resources and a
train-the-trainer webinar series are available to help you provide
training and orientation to SMP volunteers. Start with the SMP Volunteer Training Implementation Guide.
- VRPM Training: Recorded training is available for
CoVs related to ACL/AoA’s VRPM policies (described above) and
volunteer program management in general.
- SMART FACTS Training: Training is available for
those who enter volunteer hours and other data in the SMP reporting tool
called SMART FACTS.
Additional Resources that May Interest CoVs
Resources such as the fact sheets and the SMP brochure, which have
been developed for outreach to beneficiaries, are also useful for
volunteer training purposes.
- Center Products: Fact sheets and other resources have been developed
by the Center for SMP use.
- Coordinator of Volunteers Roster: This roster can be
used by CoVs as a networking tool and is used by the Center to send
certain communications.
- Outreach Materials: A standardized SMP brochure,
logo, and personal health care journal (PHCJ) have been developed by
ACL/AoA so that SMPs have a national identity.
- Resource Library: The library contains materials
created by SMPs for SMPs for use at the local level. Why reinvent the
wheel?
- SMP Profile by State: This profile can be used to
view information about the various SMP program models around the
country.
