OIG ReportsThe Office of Inspector General (OIG)The Office of Inspector General for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is responsible for compiling data regarding the activities of the SMP programs. The SMP activity data (known as “performance measures”) are provided by the OIG to Congress and other federal government agencies to demonstrate the successes of the SMP program as well as areas for improvement. SMP Performance MeasuresSMP performance measures that are reported to the OIG include information about activity in three key areas: volunteers, outreach and education, and complex issues and referrals. Click here for a complete listing.
SMPs, OIG Report, and SMART FACTSSMPs are required to report information about their performance measures to the OIG once each year, on the last day of February. This annual report covers the entire previous calendar year. For efficiency and accuracy, OIG reporting of SMP performance measures has been automated within the SMART FACTS system. By entering data in SMART FACTS as activity occurs within the SMP, each project is essentially “reporting as they go.” The OIG retrieves the annual report directly from SMART FACTS to compile information on all SMP performance measures. OIG Report: Annual ResultsAfter the data is retrieved from SMART FACTS, the Office of Inspector General analyzes the data and produces a comprehensive report, including a summary and detailed appendices, outlining aggregate and individual performance data for each calendar year. The reports are published in the spring each year.
