SMP Orientation
Are you the new SMP project director in your state?
The SMP Resource Center offers orientation for new SMP project
directors. The components of SMP orientation are:
Administration for Community Living (ACL) prior
approval: SMPs experiencing turnover in the SMP project
director position should first contact their ACL project
officer. Once ACL has provided approval for key SMP personnel
changes, the SMP Resource Center is able to schedule orientation.
Orientation web meeting: The purpose of this meeting
is to introduce new SMP project directors to the Center’s support
services and provide an overview of the primary components of the
national SMP program. This two-hour meeting is tailored to the unique
needs of the new SMP project director. New SMP project directors
may choose to attend alone or may prefer to invite additional staff from
their SMP to join them. The SMP’s ACL project officer often
attends this meeting also.
SMART FACTS training: Conducted as a series,
new SMP project directors receive individualized training in the use of
SMART FACTS, the national SMP program reporting system.
SMP 101
The SMP
101 page of our website provides links to the core resources
needed by every SMP. Created with the new SMP project director in
mind, this page is a good place to start for self-paced research about
operating an SMP.
Mentor Calls
A tradition in the SMP network, monthly mentor calls provide an
opportunity for all SMP project directors and other key SMP staff to
network with each other. They are held the second Tuesday of every
month at 11:30 a.m. ET and 3:00 p.m. ET. Access instructions are emailed
to SMP project directors. SMP project directors determine whether or not
other staff from their state should also be invited to mentor calls. For
more information, contact Carol Dahms at 1-877-808-2468.
