SMP Foundations: Volunteer TrainingThis training has been developed to provide SMP volunteers and staff with a foundation of knowledge in three main content areas: the SMP program, Medicare basics and Medicare fraud and abuse. Both classroom and online training options are available. The classroom training was published in August 2009. Since then, most documents have been revised from their original versions, as indicated below in the PowerPoint Presentations and Training Kit sections. Please note that bulk reproduction of these materials is the responsibility of SMPs. As a courtesy, however, The Center periodically prints bulk quantities if funding is available. The online training was published in January 2011 based on the
version of the classroom training that was updated as of
11/20/09. Participants should allow 4 to 6 hours to complete the
entire online course, including chapters 1 to 3 and the SMP quiz
review game. A technical guide is provided below to make sure
participants and their computers are ready to take this course.
Everything else needed to complete the online course, including
instructions, a training tracker and other handouts and links to online
resources are provided directly in the online course. Online TrainingBefore completing the online training, please contact your local SMP. Click here to locate the SMP in your area.
