Multi-Cultural and Multi-Lingual Projects

Organization Name:  Washington Office of Insurance Commissioners

Target:  Latino/Hispanic Outreach, Rural

Target Issues:  Medicare fraud, errors and abuse prevention and reporting

Products Produced:  Brochure, PowerPoint presentation, Radio PSAs in English and Spanish

Organization Name:  Great Lakes Intertribal Council, Inc.

Target:  rural, isolated and hard-to-reach American Indian and Alaskan Native populations in Wisconsin, Michigan and Minnesota

Target Issues:  1)  Continue to serve the GLITC tribal service area of WI and MI.  2)  Expand project to population residing in urban areas with Urban Health Center  3)  Expand project into another state through collaboration with Minnesota Board on Aging and Minnesota Indians Area Agency on Aging.

Products Produced:  Development and Dissemination of American Indian SMP Integration Manual documenting a model of health care fraud integration that can be replicated by other tribes and tribal organizations on a national basis.

Target:  Hispanic/Latinos in New Jersey and Delaware

Target Issues:  Preventing fraud and abuse to Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries

Target:  Low Income Minorities

Target Issues:  Use a cultural translation model and test it through a minimum of five community partnerships (basic knowledge about SMP, changes in attitudes regardingi health care problems and increased participation)

Target:  Hispanic/Latino, Native American, Long-Term Care Facility Residents

Target Issue:  Long-term care and health care rights, fraud and abuse prevention, coordination with law enforcement and development of local fraud and abuse prevention councils

Target:  Multi-lingual, multi-cultural Hawaiians, Southeast Asians, Pacific Islanders

Target Issues:  Integrate education efforts within Native Hawaiian, Pacific Island and Southeast Asian populations, Replicate successful models in other states

Products Produced:  Translated written materials, Video Documentation and culturally appropriate educational models

Partners:  Key organizations who serve these populations

Organization Name:  Hunter College/Brookdale Center on Aging

Target:  non-English speaking Chinese Americans

Target Issues:  Assist population with identifying and reporting health care errors, fraud and abuse

Products Produced:  Training and outreach materials translated into Chinese, Media Campaign with Chinese newspapers, flyers, posters

Partners:  Family associations, churches, libraries, health care facilities and community centers

Organization Name:  Oklahoma Insurance Department

Target:  Oklahoma Medicare Part D/Medicaid Beneficiaries (especially rural, Hispanic and Native American)

Target Issues:  Educate these seniors to protect themselves against health care fraud

Products Produced:  “Stop, Call, Confirm” Media Campaign  (posters, PBS broadcasts, brochures, flyers, newspaper advertisements, radio PSAs)

Organization Name:  Boat People SOS, Inc.

Target:  Vietnamese Seniors

Target Issues:  Reduce incidence of Medicare/Medicaid fraud, errors and abuse among Vietnamese Seniors

Products Produced:  Set of Vietnamese outreach materials and training materials in diverse formats (print, audio, video); replication manual, website, published articles, radio and television programs; training workshop at BPSOS annual conference

Partners:  Vietnamese-American FBCOs and media organizations

Organization Name:  National Asian Pacific Center on Aging

Target:  Asian Pacific Islander Language Speaking Beneficiaries

Target Issues:  Raise awareness of Medicare errors, fraud and abuse in API communities in at least four states

Products Produced:  Final Report, Multi-Lingual Helpline and articles for publication

Partners:  Asian Pacific Islander community based and social service organizations
