Dinesh M. Shah and his practice, Michigan Physicians Group, P.C. (MPG), have paid the United States $2 million to resolve allegations that they violated the False Claims Act by knowingly billing federal health care programs for diagnostic testing that was either unnecessary or not performed. The investigation focused on the provision of a group of diagnostic tests, including blood pressure reading tests, that were routinely performed on patients without first being ordered by a physician and without regard to medical necessity.
