Doctor Charged in Scheme Exploiting Telemedicine

Physician Sangita Patel has been indicted on a charge of health care fraud, alleging she ran a scheme to submit bogus claims to Medicare. According to a criminal complaint, she operates Advance Home Physicians Center. Patel allegedly submitted more than $1 million in false claims to Medicare for telehealth services she did not provide and prescribed Schedule II controlled substances to more than 90% of the patients involved in her telehealth insurance claims.
